Coach, Girls 7th Grade
Don Pursley grew up in Lancaster, CA and has always loved volleyball. With the Mojave Desert not being a mecca for volleyball, he learned the game at the city park playing with friends since they did not have a high school team until his senior year. He made the most of that opportunity and played his senior year, where he was named the team captain. He loved the sport and wanted more exposure, so he moved to Northridge and played at LA Pierce College leading them to back-to-back California state championships. From there he was recruited to play at SDSU in 1995, where an injury ended his collegiate career.
Don started coaching in 1992, as the freshman boys' and girls' coach for Highland High School. After moving to San Diego he continued to coach high school as the junior varsity head coach at Saint Augustine's and was an assistant for the varsity program. As he was starting a family, he continued coaching and helped to re-start a women's collegiate program at United States International University after the school gave up their sports program years earlier. He was the assistant head coach at USIU playing against NAIA opponents. The school changed its name and now goes by Alliant International University.
When he is not at the Epic courts, Don is a Senior Account Executive with ABC-TV in San Diego handling television and digital advertising campaigns for local and regional advertisers. Don has been a San Diego resident since 1994. He moved to Poway in 2002 and resides there with his wife, Kim, and their 3 kids; boys Justin (16) & Brett (12) and daughter Kayla (15).
